Dear Friends,

The last quarter of 2008 was very difficult for many Christians and many of our churches. During this time of financial uncertainty there are many who have suffered real loss and many more who are frightened. As God's people we need to be the "Light and Salt" that Jesus talked about both to our hurting brothers and sisters in Christ and to those who do not know the eternal hope that comes from a personal relationship with Jesus.

This is a real opportunity for the world to see that we really believe God loves us and that our value comes from our relationship with him and not from material things and earthly security. In fact earthly security is in reality a oxymoron, because the only real security we can have comes from our faith in and relationship with Jesus.

I earnestly pray as I know you do that 2009 will be a better year then most people seem to expect. I know it can if remember the "Great Commandment". When asked the greatest commandment, Jesus answered, "We are to love the Lord with all our heart, mind, and soul, and we are to love everyone he died for as much as we love ourselves." Please forgive my own paraphrasing. I pray that our churches can truly be beacons of His love in the days ahead.

If there is anything I can do to help in the coming year please call and let me know. One last thing, I would encourage all pastors to look into the conference that Randy McWhorter of the CSBC Healthy Church Group is leading at Trinity Baptist in Livermore on Jan. 31st. There is more info below.

Love in Christ,

FEBRUARY 23-24, 2009
On Target 2009

Riverside Convention Center, Riverside, California

Older pastors - You cut your teeth on confrontational evangelism, you memorized outlines, went door-to- door and took others along with you. You read books by Jerry Falwell and Billy Graham and watched Graham and Luis Palau crusades on television. Yet now you feel that the world around you has changed and you are trying to figure out how to relate to this next generation.

Younger pastors - You are committed to sharing the Gospel but you are not completely comfortable with some of the conversations coming out of the emergent church dialogue. You are trying to discern how evangelism fits in today's culture.

The conference highlights second-generation ministers who are "Reaching The Next Generation" and ready to share their story with you.
